For most residents and diners the notion of writing an article about Beachwood Barbecue in Seal Beach may seem redundant, I beg to differ. Though we’ve dined there on numerous occasions I always notice little changes that Gabe has made to the food and beer menu to keep our taste buds engaged. For this reason, and our last sumptuous dining experience, I thought it worthy of writing a blog post about Beachwood Barbecue in Seal Beach.
The menu item I decided to try was the Barbecue Chicken Salad opting to reserve my caloric intake for the arms length list of micro brews. Unlike other barbecue chicken salad’s I’ve had, the Beachwood Barbecue salad is served with warm chicken just pulled from the bone and lightly covered in tangy sauce over a bed of greens. To add to the southern flare, grilled corn, red onions, tortilla strips, cheddar, jicama & cilantro drizzled with smoked chili buttermilk bring all the flavors together in a blissful symphony of delight (okay so maybe I didn’t reserve that many calories with this salad).
Pleased with my dinner selection, I moved on to the newly (and daily) printed/updated list of beers from Drakes Brewing and Triple Rock Brewery Alehouse with 16 selections in all. My first selection was the Hefeweizen by Drakes which was light and flavorful but lacking the body to stand up the the smoky barbecue chicken in my salad. That’s when the 15% Keyser Soze (fondly named after the character in film The Usual Suspects) jumped out at me begging to be paired with my dinner. Surprisingly it wasn’t strong to the taste buds as I imagined but mellow, rich and well flavored with a hint of Bourbon from the barrel aging. Judging by how fast they sold out of it, this beer was incredibly popular with the die hard beer fanatics so all I managed was one glass.
If you haven’t been down to Beachwood Barbecue in Seal Beach, I would encourage you to make it your next diner spot to visit. And as a helpful tip if you are not local, you can expect a wait time from 30 minutes to nearly 2 hours depending on what time you arrive for diner. This Seal Beach establishment has really become a food and beer paradise!
