Seal Beach business owners may have a new ally – Patch.com. I recently met with Paige Austin, the acting Editor of the Rossmoor, Los Alamitos & Seal Beach Patch to learn more about their service. Patch.com (backed by Aol.com) is aiming to fill a local void between offline and online news and bridge the gap between advertisers with little or no budget and those with an established online presence.
Patch.com (as described on their home page) will provide a “local source for news, events, business listings, and discussion”. At my meeting with Paige, I discussed how after the local blog SealBeachdaily.com closed up shop there had been void for good hyper-local online journalism. Paige, also a Seal Beach resident, intends to fix that with her impressive background as a reporter for the Orange County Register and The Press Enterprise. Acting as the Editor for the Rossmoor, Los Alamitos & Seal Beach Patch she is passionate about developing an online readership that is hungry for local content.
So how can one person possibly gather all the small but significant news worthy stories developing throughout our community? Well, in Paige’s words “with the help of freelancers and columnists, I’ll be posting several articles along with tweets and facebook updates focusing on all things Seal Beach, Los Alamitos and Rossmoor”. As a local business owner and long time Seal Beach resident, I encourage you to welcome Paige and her Patch.com team to your business and to our beach community. If you happen to spot Paige walking her two Pugs out on the Greenbelt, give her a waive and show her your support on behalf of our Seal Beach business community.
