Salon Meritage in Seal Beach began it’s transformation today led by local contractor, Josh Muller of Kustum Kunstrukshun. I stopped by the site this morning to talk to Josh and survey the beginning of what is sure to be historic project. Upon my arrival I was greeted by the property owner, Jim Watson, and managed to get a few details about the remodel.
Mr. Watson described what sounds like a complete demolition of the site, which will likely include the exterior and windows. It was apparent that the project is focused on completely stripping the space of it’s interior contents to visually expedite the remodeling efforts.
Though Mr. Watson was candid with final design details, he did mention that the business will continue under the direction of previous the owner’s wife, Sandy Fannin. The project is just in the beginning phase today, but Mr. Watson was hopeful for a June re-opening.
When I asked Josh how he was approaching such a historic project, he simply described it as a “feel good job”. He is aware of the stigma surrounding the property and is optimistic about helping the owners and community move past a difficult chapter in their history.
