The Salon Meritage shooting in Seal Beach on Wednesday October 12 created a vacuum in our small beach town. In the immediate aftermath, residents and local leaders held a candlelight vigil to address the tragedy and share how the emotional event had effected them. Below is the first of two videos I captured in which Seal Beach district 1 council woman Ellery Deaton shares her feelings.
In the weeks since the event it has become painfully clear just how much of an impact the event has had on the community. Every person I speak to has been touched directly or indirectly with the loss of so many. Pastor Don Shoemaker poses a very deep question in his speech about “being in the wrong place at the wrong time”. This really moved me and made me think about all the possible situations I face daily, never knowing if one of them could be my last. It’s a powerful reminder to enjoy every moment of every day with your family, friends and loved ones.
I’m curious to know if you attended the candlelight vigil? If so, what was your personal take away from the event?
