Seal Beach is, in a word……PARADISE. Visit this “jewel by the sea” in Southern California and step back in time, immerse yourself in a “village ambiance”, take the opportunity to relax, take a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life, be mesmerized by the waves rolling onto the beach, visit the historical Red Car Museum, browse through small-town California boutiques, gift and specialty shops, (sea shells, of course), art galleries, restaurants, cafes and coffee shops for everyone’s taste. Walking the pier, the second largest municipal pier in California, is an adventure in its self and gives you great vistas of the Pacific Ocean, all the way to the beautiful island of Catalina!
There’s something for everyone…surfing, boogie boarding, swimming, kite flying, bicycle riding, wind surfing, and of course, sun bathing ( playing in the sand, building your dream sand castle) on one of the last non-commercialized beaches in California, where gentle sea breezes and long strolls on the shore bring the serenity of a beautiful sunset to your soul. Truly a must when visiting.
Little know to visitors is the Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge where you can have a day of tranquility and solitude at this 1000 acre preserve. Here native plants, fish, birds, reptiles and mammals thrive in their natural habitat. Tours, by reservation, are offered of this natural wonderland. (562-626-7215).
And Seal Beach is just not for summer time pleasure. Throughout the year, there is much to experience and enjoy: a Health and Fitness Expo in March, an “over-the-top” Classic Car show and a 5K-10K marathon run in April, free summer concerts on the green at the pier in July and August, a colorful Kite Festival and an Art & Crafts Fair in September, Main Street ‘Trick or Treat” in October, and rounding out the year, a spectacular Main Street Old Town Holiday Tree lighting ceremony and a truly “homespun” Christmas parade. Americana at its best! For dates, www.sealbeachchamber.org.
