Have you ever caught yourself driving through a neighborhood and slowing your car to admire a home with incredible landscape or seasonal decorations? I like to think of it as real estate “window shopping”, something each of us does subconsciously. Becoming cognizant of this can be of great value to owners considering the sale of their home.
There are several good examples of homes with outstanding curb appeal in Seal Beach. Though none are presently offered for sale, each can provide creative ideas for owners seeking to make improvements that will boost the sales price of their home.
The Craftsman style beach cottage located at 1213 Ocean Avenue demonstrates a well thought out landscape plan. It’s obvious the owner took in to consideration how the plant & flower selection would compliment the antique feel of the 1950’s home. Just as you’ll see with each of my examples, the owner extends the care and maintenance to the parkway area.
The modern look of this recently built Arts and Crafts style home located at 825 Catalina Avenue utilizes a mix of plants and trees to enhance curb appeal. The mixed palette really works to pull out the property’s exterior colors and architectural features. Notice that the landscape planning didn’t neglect the parkway? After all, that is the definition of curb appeal.
The Mediterranean style home located at 308 Ocean Avenue takes it to the next level with the use of balcony planters and climbing flowers. It’s not just the landscape that is highlighted, it’s the front two stories of the property. Individual features are literally framed with vines and flowering plants, including the street side statue which is the focal point of this beachfront estate. Even after driving past this property for years, I still slow to admire the intricately maintained landscaping.
If these properties made you take notice, think what a little work on your homes curb appeal would do to attract the interest of buyers? Whether you live in Seal Beach or in a neighboring community, there are sure to be examples of homes (both small and large) that you can draw ideas from for curb appeal improvement. This becomes especially important as we head in to the slower selling seasons of Fall & Winter.
Does your home demonstrate well crafted curb appeal? If so, submit your pictures to firstname.lastname@example.org . The home with the most impressive curb appeal will win a $50 gift card to Bay Hardware in Seal Beach and be featured in an upcoming real estate column.
